The Bible
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119: 105
Have you ever
seen the Bible? If you have graduated from a mission school, you may have read
it at school. You may have stayed at a hotel with the Bible in your room. Some
may say that they have never seen it.
The Bible is one
of the oldest books in the world that has existed since BC. There are more than
40 authors and thousands of years of events. Before the birth of printing
technology, books were copied by human hands and left for posterity. Many books
of the same era have few manuscripts left. However, there are countless Bible
manuscripts. With the passion of countless people, this book is now in our
hands. For thousands of years, the Bible has been the best-selling book in the
world to this day. Despite being a very old book, its content is new, always
giving us a fresh surprise, rather than getting old. The eternity of the Bible
is what characterizes this mysterious book, old and new.
The Bible is life for Christians. It is a
must-have. That is because it was given as a revelation. It is such a book,
given by God, that shows God Himself, who governs the world from beginning to
end.
Although it is a thick book with a large
number of letters, the Bible consistently describes the God shown by Jesus
Christ from the beginning to the end.
There are hundreds of prophecies about
Christ in the Old Testament, which describes from the beginning of the world to
before the birth of Christ. The New Testament shows that all the prophecies
spoken by many over thousands of years have been fulfilled in Christ. The New
Testament is about after the birth of Christ.
The Bible repeatedly and consistently
states that God is love and who continues to give hope. The Bible was written
by God himself through the hands of many people. Believing in these Bible words
is the course of Christians.
Your
word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119: 105
For Christians, the Bible is a guide and a
word of life. Even when we cannot see the way at all, the Word of the Bible
becomes a lamp and illuminates our way. Paul says, "Everything that was
once written was written to teach us, so that the patience and encouragement
that the Bible gives us keeps us hopeful." The Bible gives us hope.
"The word of God is the compass of the believers, and Jesus is the North
Star of justice and the sun for them," said John Newton, the lyricist of
the hymn Amazing Grace.
The more we read the Bible, the more our
hearts change. If you haven't read it yet, please do. Also, if you doesn't read
the Bible very much, take the plunge and read about four chapters a day. You
can read it in 30 minutes. The more you read the Bible, the more you can
understand it. So don't hesitate to read it even if there are some difficult
points.
Even after I decided to be a preacher,
there was a time when I hadn’t be able to read the Bible very much. However,
after being given hunger and reading the Bible well, I began to admire the
Bible so much that I could not live without reading it. Because I knew how much
this book would moisturize my soul. And more than any training, more than any
book, more than any words, this book has empowered, guided, encouraged and
grown me. Please pray for the hunger and dryness of the Word.
The Bible must be read by the Holy Spirit.
You cannot read the Bible without a relationship with the person who wrote it.
The Holy Spirit gives wisdom deeper than any commentary and any person. The
wisdom of man makes us proud, but the wisdom of God makes us humble. Peter said
in his letter that we should not interpret the words of the Bible by ourselves.
" For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets,
though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
There is a scene in Luke's Gospel that
Christ himself teaches how to read the Bible when he met his disciples in
Emmaus after the resurrection.
" And beginning with Moses and all the
Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning
himself." Luke
24:27
He also said: “ This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be
fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and
the Psalms.”
The Bible is all about Jesus, from the Old
Testament to the New Testament. It's nothing else. The Bible is meant to show
about Jesus.
Also, in the same place, there is a
statement that " Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures." At that time, the hearts of the two who listened to Jesus
were burning inside. Reading the Bible guided by the Holy Spirit is to open
your heart and read until it burns.
Reading the Bible until it burns is the
lifeline of Christians. In our lives, priorities can change subtly. But reading
the Bible for our relationship with God is the same as we drink water and eat
food. If you don't do that, your soul will be exhausted. Jesus said that Man shall not live on bread alone, but on
every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Just as the relationship between people is
based on trust, the relationship between God and us depends on whether we trust
in God. Believing in the words of the Bible is essential for our reading the
Bible. When you study theology, you may come across various ideas. You may
think that you need human wisdom. However, the problem is only belief or disbelief.
There are many things that people want to believe more than the words of the
Bible. However, faith is to believe the words of the Bible as certainty above
all else.
Regarding the written purpose of the Bible,
John says:
But these are written that
you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that
by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31
The Bible was written for us to believe in
Jesus Christ. No matter how much you learn the original language of the Bible,
it makes no sense if you do not serve this purpose. Of course, even if you
don't believe in it, it's important to read it to see if it's worth believing.
The Bible is the word of God, at the same
time, human language is only human language. Let me tell you one parable. By
looking at the timetable, we can predict when the train will arrive. Timetables
are human language. However, there may be trouble and the train arrives later
than the timetable. The timetable cannot show that. It is God's word to
indicate the exact time when the train will arrive in life, even before
anything happens.
God's Word is correct because God is
Almighty, but man wants to trust what is visible. However, the important thing
in reading the Bible is to acknowledge that God is God and to fully believe in
the Bible, which is the word of God.
"The
grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever."
This is the words that appears many times in the Bible. The words of the Bible
are more credible than anything else in the world. With this in mind, I would
like to give you one word of the Bible at the last .
Since
you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you,Isaiah 43: 4
