What is Worship?

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12: 1

What is worship? Many Christians meet on Sunday mornings and have a time of "worship." It is very important for those who believe in the same Lord to encourage each other and look up to the Lord together. But the essence of worship that the Bible shows is more than that. This is very similar to the church that Bible tells referring to each of us, the body of Christ, not a building or organization. The worship that the Bible tells of is more than physical, it is our way of life. Romans 12: 1 makes this clear.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

This is the worship that God wants us to live as God's own.

Though it is good to keep the weekly worship service, actually, it is not the matter of whether we attend the weekly church service or not, but we lives with God or not.

Whether or not you are walking with Jesus who is alive now is the only important thing for Christians. Because living in that way is true worship.

Jesus told a Samaritan woman about worship as follows.

“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.  You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

John 4: 21-24.

Jesus said that the time would come when we will worship freely anywhere, not in a fixed place. He also said that the worship that God is pleased with is due to the Spirit and the truth.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

Psalm 51:17

God sees our hearts. The Epistle of James warns of faith without deeds.

There is no point in reading the Bible unless you live according to God. No matter how much you remember the word , "Love one another," it is meaningless unless you love others. There is no point in attending worship on Sundays unless you love God.

If all Christians could take the teaching of "love" more seriously, things like the current state of Christianity today would not have happened. There are various groups in Christianity. If we stop criticizing each other and really love each other, there is no further ministry. If we can truly live according to love, no one will be hurt in the church, and so many people will accept Christ. Because everyone needs love.

We are the body of Christ. When we use our limbs as the limbs of Christ, our eyes as the eyes of Christ and our tongue for the word of Christ, those who meet us see God in us. Such a way of life is the best worship of God.
